NIN needed to benefit from N40,000 rice — FG

Prospective buyers will need to provide their National Identification Number, NIN before they can benefit from

the proposed N40,000 bag of rice, subsidized by federal government.

The intervention is expected to assist Nigeria workers whose wages have outstripped inflation, easing pressure on consumers goods, following the fuel subsidy removal and floating of the Naira against the US dollar by President Bola Tinubu.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Abubakar Kyari who said this on Channels Television tagged, ‘Sunday Politics’, noted that criterion is for data gathering, aid planning and check abuse.

He said President Bola Tinubu has directed that each 50 kilograms of rice should be sold to Public Servants nationwide at the cost of N40,000 per bag.

The Minister explained that Public Servants and other Nigerian workers will be prioritize over other Nigerians when the distribution of the subsidized rice begins.

He lamented the federal government palliatives, which was meant to shared among Nigerians freely to cushion the effect of hunger, were alleged diverted by some individuals who hoard, rebag and rebrand the grains for selfish gains.

Kyari said, “Now, the ones that Mr President has directed a bag of rice should be sold at N40,000 will go especially at the first instance to Public Servants — where you have proper data, you NIN. Once you buy a bag, you won’t come back to buy again”.

“Public Servants will be prioritize over others at the first instance. And then, there are others that will be sent to States as well”, according to Mr Kyari.
