Nigeria police free 461 hostages in five weeks

Nigeria police have reported a total of 461 hostages kidnapped in different parts of nation in the past five weeks.

The Public Relations officer, Force Headquarters, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said this on Friday in a statement issued on behalf of the Inspector General, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The figure is among 1,346 suspects arrested by the police for various offences within the period in the Country.

Similarly, 385 armed robbery suspects were nabbed alongside 238 suspected kidnappers, in addition to 341 murder/homicide suspects within the same period.

In the same vein, 87 suspects were also taken into police custody for unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, while 143 suspects were also arrested for rape in addition to 151 suspects who were arrested for alleged cultism.

Police recovered 143 firearms of various calibres, 741 ammunition, and 72 stolen vehicles.
