Hunger protest: Prisons official begs agitators

A top official in the Nigerian Correctional Service has appealed to #EndBadGovernance agitators to shelve the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.

The official, Mr Lucky Ndidi, attached to the Oko Medium Custodial Centre in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State made the appeal on ITV/Radio, Benin audience participatory programme, Sunday.

He expressed concern that the protest might be hijacked by hoodlums behind EndSARS riot that occured in October 2020 when two Custodial Centres were burgled in Benin.

According to him, “The only thing that we are begging for is to sheath their sword. We know times are hard. But, at the end of the day, some people can hijack this protest, and start committing crimes. That is the only thing I want to beg for.

They (Nigerians) should think twice. We should endure this hardship, which I am sure will be over soon. The President has assured that things will get better soon”, Ndidi pleaded.

TheNewspad reports that prominent Nigerians, including political leaders, leaders of thought, traditional and religious leaders, trade unions, youth Organisations had pleaded with Nigerians to shelve the protest.
