How Tinubu’s indulgence aided Wike’s 3rd term — Bakare

Tunde Bakare, the presiding overseer of the Lagos-based Global Community Citadel church says the indulgence of President Bola Tinubu is aiding the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to assume the status of third term Governor in River State.

This followed recent comments by the Minister during a Media chat that he wanted the outright removal of Siminalayi Fubara as governor of Rivers State, but the Tinubu save him.

In March 2025, President appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) as the Sole Administrator in Rivers, which had been embroiled in political tension caused by State actors in the State.

He took the decision after the President declared state-of-emergency rule in the State on March 18, 2025 and suspended elected officials and democratic institutions for a period of 6 months.

But in his address to Nigerians on state-of-the-Nation broadcast at Easter celebration in Ikeja, Bakare alleged that Nigeria democratic oversight by the National Assembly under the leadership of its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio for reneging on its oversight over Rivers imbroglio.

The Cleric urged not to turn Nigeria to a mafia State, warning that Nigeria is too delicate to the President’s style of Emilokan (it’s my turn) politics and urged him stop playing God with Nigeria’s democracy, which he said “is facing existential threat”.

The Cleric alleged that “This 10th National Assembly has by its unconstitutional endorsement of the President’s abuse of powers, proven to be the most spineless in our recent history.

“Through its actions and inactions, the National Assembly has in effect become the 48th member of the President’s cabinet, while a cabinet Minister, Wike, has more or less becomes a 3rd term State Governor in River State, pampered by the indulgence of the President.

“Recent events have made it clear to Nigerians that had this National Assembly been in place in 2006 — when the third term agenda of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was proposed, our democracy would have since morphed into one of Africa’s most lane table tales of sit tight dictatorship”, he said.

He also warned that, “If this State capture is what you meant by Emilokan, it’s an anti-climax that can only be counterproductive at the end”.

Bakare further urged President Tinubu to “think deeply and reflect on on these words”, saying “no man is wise enough or good enough to be trusted with unlimited powers”.
