Police Commissioner in Ogun State,
CP Lanre Ogunlowo has announced the peaceful resolution of a dispute involving herders and farmers in Mowe Community where six cows belonging to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders of Nigeria, were intentionally killed.
The incident of animal cruelty occurred on January 23, 2025 incident, was reported by Alhaji Muhammed, the Miyetti Allah Chairman and Seriki Fulani of Abbatoir, Agege Chapter.
Police spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, CSP Omolola Odutola said Alhaji Muhammed, the Miyetti Allah Chairman and Seriki Fulani of Abbatoir, Agege lodged the complaint to police Authorities.
She said in a statement that Muhammed also told police that and one injured, identifying the Baale of Amu Village, Abiodun Ogunyemi, as the prime suspect.
The police promptly arrested the suspect and launched an investigation into the matter, according to the police spokesperson.
To prevent further escalation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Mowe to engage stakeholders and mediate a resolution.
Consequently, a meeting hosted by a DPO brought together leaders, including Alhaji Muhammed, the farmers’ representative, and Baale Amu Village Chief Alani Ogunremi.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to reconcile and pledged to avoid future conflicts. As part of the agreement, the villagers consented to allocate designated grazing areas to the herders.
The Miyetti Allah leaders, in turn, agreed to assess the designated land and provide feedback to the Divisional Police Officer, dousing heightened tension in the locality
CP Ogunlowo commended the commitment of both parties to peace and emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue and mutual respect to foster harmony in the Community.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace, order and solicited support of all Stakeholders towards preventing similar incidents in the future.
