Fire guts Chemistry building in UNIBEN, VC expresses shock

A section of Chemistry Building at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been gutted by fire whose cause is yet-to-be ascertained.

The cause of fire that began at about 10p.m on Thursday, and blazed till 5a.m the following day, did not record any death.

The fire affected Examinations records and the Head of Department office and damaged other equipment, including air conditioners in the Building.

Business outlets on the top floor of the Building and Chemicals in the laboratories meant fof practicals and staff offices were however spared in the night fire.

Four fire trucks, including the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Benin, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and the University of Benin, intervened.

Responders can seen in a footage breaking louvres in the bunt Building in a bid to savaged property from the blaze.

Vice Chancellor the University of Benin. Prof. Lilian Salami visited the crime scene and addressed staff on Friday morning.

Salami who expressed shock over the incidents, was led on a guided tour by security personnel at the affected Building.
