The Edo State government, has directed the release of 14 suspected cultists arrested by security agents in the State for lack of evidence.
This was after their case files were reviewed by the State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP forwarded by the Edo State Police Command.
The case, involved allegations of conspiracy, cultism and promoting armed attack in respect of Criminal Reference CR: 30/2026 through the acting through the Department of Public Prosecution.
After a careful examination of the facts and evidence contained in the duplicate case file, Edo State Government, through the DPP, found that no prima facie case has been established against the suspects.
Consequently, it has been advised that they be released if still in custody, according to the DPP advice.
It said while it maintains a zero-tolerance stance against cultism, violent crimes and any act capable of disturbing public peace, it remains firmly committed to the rule of law and due process in the State.
It further stated that the Prosecution must be guided by credible and sufficient evidence, not mere allegations.
