Two children drown in Edo flood, two rescued

Tragedy struck in Erediauwa street, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State where two children, slipped into a flood water and drowned at the weekend.

Spokesperson of the Nigeria police Command in Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, saying two other children who escaped death by whiskers, have been hospitalized in Benin.

Rescue team was immediately dispatched upon receiving information that bodies are floating in water.

“The children actually died in the mud before rescue got to them, while two were rescued,” she said the victims died at the scene, while two other children were rescued from the flood.

An anonymous caller who also confirmed the incident on a Radio programme on Monday in Benin said, “That area where the four kids slipped into is used to collect flood water, and no one would have thought the children would go there because it’s muddy.

“The two children were fished out dead, while two others were resuscitated at a nearby hospital where they were rushed to”, the caller said during the interview.
