Gunmen abduct Ebonyi monarch while going to church, Nwifuru speaks

Date:

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted His Royal Highness, Ezeogo Francis Igwe, the monarch of Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area.

He was reportedly abducted by suspected hoodlums on Sunday morning on the Nwakpu axis of Ikwo Local Government Area in Ebonyi Central Senatorial District while on his way to church.

Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, the State Governor said in a statement on Sunday, expressed solidarity with the family of the abducted royal father and the people of Ikwo Local Government Area.

He assured that the State government had activated all necessary security and intelligence mechanisms to secure his safe release.

Nwifuru said all security agencies in the State had been directed to work in synergy to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“All security agencies in the state have been directed to work in synergy to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the governor stated.

He stressed that the government would deploy all available resources to unmask those behind the crime and prevent a recurrence, warning that criminal acts against innocent citizens, particularly revered community leaders, would not be tolerated.

The governor called on residents, especially those in Ikwo and neighbouring Communities, to remain calm but vigilant and provide useful information to assist ongoing security operations.

He also urged the abductors to release the traditional ruler unconditionally, warning that the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on anyone found culpable.
