Edo female voter shot dead while awaiting result announcement

A voter, Elizabeth Osadebamwen shot dead at the presidential and National Assembly polls held on Saturday 23rd in Edo State.

The tragedy occurred when unknown gunmen invaded the voting centre in Ogheghe village, Sapele road, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State.

A post shared on Edo citizens’ Forum said Osadebamwen remained at her polling Unit for the the winners to be declared after casting her ballot till around 7pm when some hoodlums came to the unit and started firing sporadically.

During the melee, the young Lady was hit by a stray bullet, and was immediately evacuated for urgent medical attention to hospital where she died as a result of the injury.

Voters, friends and well-wishers have been sending tributes to her family on social media, describing Osadebamwen as a heroine over her act of bravery.

A member of Edo citizens’ Forum wrote on Facebook, “Someone’s daughter and friend gone like that. Too bad.

“Those who cut short your life will face the wrath of God. We say No to thuggery.

“Rest in peace Elizabeth did what other girls were scared to do”.

A statement by police authorities in Edo State is being awaited.
