Edo 2024: Shaibu threatens to sack Consultants recruited by Obaseki

The deputy governor of Edo State, Mr Philip Shaibu has vowed to lay-off Consultants who were engaged by Governor Godwin Obaseki into the State Civil Service if he realizes his governorship bid on September 21, 2024.

Shaibu who fired the salvo when he featured on Tuesday November 28th 2023 Channels Television ‘Politics Today’, acknowledged the Governor’s reforms in Education through Edobest and the Civil Service, which he said has strengthened workforce and attracted investors to the State.

But the governorship aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lamented that Consultants have hijacked jobs of Civil Servants whose capacity would be harnessed towards service delivery if given the mandate.

Shaibu said, “The Governor has done excellently well in area of wooing investors to Edo State and building capacity. If I become Governor, I would allow Civil Servants to act. Presently, we are building the Civil Service. We are training and retraining them”.

Continuing, Shaibu said, “But, they are not able to work yet, because Consultants are the ones doing the work”, according to him, “when I become Governor, this capacity that the Governor has built, I will withdraw those Consultants and harness the Civil Servants to do their work with the capacity that the Governor has built”.

Speaking on how he intend to collaborate with the federal government and build federal roads in Edo State, Shaibu said, there is nothing like federal roads.

“If it requires me to go and bow to the President, Bola Tinubu or Senator Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works — my senior brother former Governor, to have those roads fixed; I will do it. There is no shame in it. Then, resources that I ought to spend on those roads, will be channeled to other things”, Shaibu said.
