Catholics sue for calm over murder at Cathedral

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, Imo State, has appeal for calm after its Priest over the alleged murder in St. Columbus Catholic Church, Amaimo Community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of the State.

Recall that Rev. Fr. Joseph Enyinnaya allegedly gun down a boy identified as
Joseph, accused of setting off fireworks, popularly known as banger inside the church during New Year’s Eve service where a worshipper was injured.

The Archbishop of Owerri, Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji made the appeal in a statement, which assured that police are “investigating the incident and the circumstances surrounding it”.

He said the Catholic Church highly regrets the shooting incident, saying that the Priest of St. Columbus Catholic Church, had taken into police custody.

The statement also said, “The Archdiocese of Owerri condoles with the bereaved family, and prays for
the happy repose of the dead, and the speedy recovery of the injured”.

Nigerians have expressed outrage over the alleged murder of the boy and called for diligent investigation into the crime.
