AP crisis: Court issues new directive to INEC

A federal Capital Territory High Court presided over by Justice Mohammed Adamu has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Christopher Imumolen as the national Chairman of the Accord Party.

The order is pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit filed by Imumolen and 12 other officials of the party against the 1st defendant in the suit, Maxwell Mgbudem and 13 others.

Justice Adamu who made the order while ruling on a motion ex parte argued by Counsel to the applicants, Christopher Okonkwo, the court, restrained the defendants from parading themselves as the national executive Committee of the Accord Party, pending the determination of the substantive suit before the Court.

The Court also barred the defendants from conducting any state, Local Government Congress of the Accord Party, and granted Imumolen the control of the party’s leadership pending the outcome of the suit.

The Court further restrained INEC either by itself or through its servants, agents, cronies, privies, aides, however, however and whatever and whatsoever called accorded any recognition to the party’s national leadership, pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

The Court listed Mgbudem, INEC, the Inspector General of Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and 10 others as defendants in the suit, which was thereafter adjourned hearing on the suit for September 2, 2024.

Imumolen was the Presidential Candidate of the Accord Party for 2023 general elections.
