Police avert potential clash in Edo govt house

Operatives of the Nigeria police have sealed-off Edo deputy governor’s office in Government House, Benin City, the State Capital in a bid to avert a potential clash that result in bloodshed.

This comes barely 48 hours after Governor Godwin Obaseki formally notified the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, accusing the reinstated deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu of attempting to invade government House in a bid to enforce Abuja court judgement.

Shaibu through his Chief Press Secretary, Musa Ebomhiana, denied the claims, describing his principal as a “peace loving man who believes in the rule of law and would not want to shed innocent blood for whatever reason”.

Recall that the relocated Shaibu’s office outside the Government House on Osadebe Avenue was sealed in the height off his face-off with Governor Godwin Obaseki.

TheNewspad reports that no reason has yet to be given by the police, however, stern-looking armed police personnel barricaded the entry gate atop a machine gun mounted police truck.

Last week Friday, staffers in the deputy Governor’s office were directed to resume at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Agency where they are to resume work on Monday September 30th 2024.

This was after government vehicles attached to Shaibu the deputy Governor’s office, including the Press Crew bus have been moved to the office of the Head of Service inside the Government House in Osadebe Avenue.

Edo State has being playing host to two deputy Governor, Omobayo Godwins Marvelous, who enjoys the support of Governor Godwin Obaseki alongside Shaibu who having been impeached by the State House of Assembly, was reinstated on orders of a federal High Court.
