The Nigeria Police Command in Kwara State has intensified border patrol on its corridors to forestall influx of criminal elements from neighbouring States.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Victor Olaiya, said the Command has also tightened noose on Niger State where over 100 inmates who escaped from the Medium Custodial Centre at yet-to-be recaptured.
This was in response to 119 inmates who escaped from the the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in
Suleja, Niger State on April 24, 2024 when heavy rainfall that wrecked havoc at the Centre that was built during the Colonial era in Nigeria.
DSP Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command’s spokesman who disclosed this on Sunday in a statement, quoted the Commissioner as assuring assuring residents of Kwara of security of lives and property.
The statement said, “As a neighboring state, the Kwara State police is fully aware of the security implications of such incident”.
“We assure that the command is on high alert and is working closely with the relevant agencies to ensure the safety and security of our State”, he said.
The CP revealed that adequate measures have been put in place to prevent any attempt by the escaped inmates to enter or cause harm within the State.
“Patrols have been intensified along the border areas, and surveillance has been increased in vulnerable locations.
“We urge all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. Together, we can maintain peace and security in our Communities.

TheNewspad recalls that National Public Relations officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service, ACC Abubakar Umar, had previously said 13 of the escaped inmates. Collaborative efforts with other security agencies are ongoing to recapture the 105 fleeing inmates.
