The Edo State government has postponed the reopening of all public and private schools in the State for the first term academic session indefinitely, ahead of Saturday September 21st Edo State governorship election.
The resumption, which was supposed to begin on Monday September 9th 2024, has been “postponed till further notice due to due to tension arising from the recent increase in fuel prices and the challenges faced by parents and guardians”.
The government directive is contained in a statement by Ojo Akin-Longe, Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Education issued on behalf of the State Commissioner for Education dated September 6th 2024.
The statement reads in part: “An official statement from the government has directed that schools remain closed due to the tension arising from the recent tension arising from the recent increase in fuel prices and the challenges faced by Parents and Guardians.
“The government urges Parents, Guardians and Caregivers to monitor the activities of their Children and Wards closely, given the current situation and the rising tension caused by the fuel price hike”, Akin-Longe said on Friday September 6th.
