The Board of Enquiry set up by the Defence Headquarters to probe the recent killings of 17 army personnel by hoodlums at Ughelli in Delta State on Friday met the State governor, Mr Sheriff Oborevwori at the Government House, Asaba, the State Capital.
Oborevwori who confirmed this in a social Media post on Friday night, wrote: “Today (Friday April 5th 2024), I granted audience to the Chairman and members of the Board of Enquiry set up by the Defence Headquarters to probe the Okuama killings, who are on a fact-finding mission to the state.
“The Board of Enquiry is led by Air Vice Marshal David Ajayi. I urged the team to conduct a transparent investigation to identify the real culprits of the heinous crime and prevent innocent citizens from further suffering”, he said.
The slain military personnel killed on March 14, 2024 communal clash over a land dispute between Okuoma and Okolo Communities in Delta State by irate youths.
The victims were attached to the 181 Amphibious Battalion of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army who were on a peace mission when they were ambushed and murdered by their assailants while their bodies were also dismembered.
The Army had declared the alleged culprits involved in the heinous crime wanted; Just as the police confirmed the arrest of at over eight criminal suspects in connection with the tragedy where six police personnel and six others were earlier declared missing on the killing field before the military personnel massacre.
