Unknown gunmen have abducted the chairman of Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Mr Haanongon Gideon, was kidnapped at 6:30am on Saturday with his Personal Assistant, Mr. Ior Silas Yuhwam, his driver and a police orderly attached to him.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Benue State, SP. Catherine Anene said in a terse statement that she “has not briefed” about the incident.
But, the Secretary to Ukum Local Government Council, Jonathan Modi, confirmed the alleged abduction in a statement on Saturday.
Modi revealed that they were taken into hostage on the way to attend the burial of the Ruler of Katsina Ala LG, the Ter Katsina Ala, Chief Fezaanga Wombo on Anyagba, Tongov, in Katsina Ala Council Area of the State.
The Council official also advised citizens in the Council to remain calm, and assured that measures are in place free hostages.
