Six persons accused of aiding the suicide of Lilian Omokhuale, the Chief Executive Officer of Uyi Technical Company Limited, Mr Francis Omoruyi’s daughter, will on March 12, 2024 appear in federal High Court, Benin Division.
On October 7, 2022, 40-year-old Lilian Omokhuale allegedly committed suicide in the GRA axis of Benin City, Edo State, promting the Nigeria Police to commence investigation into the incident and thereafter arrested the suspects.
The six accused persons ― Jessica Iguodala Oghomwen, Akpes Omorodion, Chukwudi Akpotowho, Joy Noren, Vincent Uhunmwangho and Blessing Jatto, listed in suit No. FHC/B/5C/2024 in a case between the sextet, and Inspector-General of Police, were also accused of money laundering, concealment of source of funds and operating specialized Banking without valid licence.
The offences contravened the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, the Criminal Code Act 2004 and the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act 2020, according to the charges.
The accused persons are expected to take their pleas during the sitting of the Court presided over by Justice S. M Shuaibu.
The proceeding is expected to give legal practice clearer direction in assessing public interest cases.
