Oshiomhole unveils Idahosa as Tinubu-backed Edo APC Candidate

The Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has unveiled Hon. Dennis Idahosa as President Bola Tinubu-backed consensus Candidate of Edo State All Progressives Congress governorship primary election billed for Saturday February 17th 2024.

The Senator who represents Edo North Senatorial District, said President Bola Tinubu gave the directive when he met with Edo APC governorship aspirants on Thursday in Abuja.

Oshiomhole conveyed Tinubu’s directive at a meeting with some APC delegates in the State where he publicly endorsed Hon. Dennis Idahosa, House of Representatives member, representing Ovia Federal Constituency.

Earlier on Friday, APC governorship aspirant in the election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, announced his withdrawal from the race. But other APC aspirants who have been impressed upon to step down are yet to declare their stance.

Dismissing rumours that the party has concluded on the choice of one of APC governorship aspirants in either Edo Central or Edo North Senatorial District, the Edo State former Governor, called on delegates to the primary election to close ranks and deliver Idahosa as Candidate of the party, ahead of the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State.

“Some of them have been on national television and said Oshiomhole wants to impose. And I asked myself”, according to Oshiomhole, Yesterday (Thursday February 15), the President met with the leadership of the party, and gave clean, clear direction.

“The President cannot say what he cannot do. That is why I stayed back in Abuja, because a mother cannot leave the labour room until the Child is delivered.

“I want to assure that all those rumours they were carrying are not correct. Pls, regardless of individual reservations, because all of us can never think the same way. We can argue, debate. May quarrel not divide us so that we can go one way, and vote to nominate Dennis Idahosa”, Oshiomhole said.

Continuing, Oshiomhole said, “If you are entitled to a vote and to go and campaign to somebody, I have a right to vote and to also tell somebody to vote for somebody.

“Even in America, they have what they call super delegates. It’s about influence. Politics is about influence. If when I was a Governor, I put many of you in prison, can I call any of you to come to my house?

“Am I the Governor now? When I was removed as the national Chairman, did I stopped calling meetings in this Hall? Did I grow so angry and said I won’t do again because I know that the downfall of a mab is not the end of his life?

“If you watched the interview I had with Seun, he keeps saying that you are a very close friend to the President…of course, who will not want to be Mr President close friend. But, did they not say that they are removing me because I am supporting Tinubu?

“Yesterday, we started hearing rumours. Many people called me and said that they (APC) has given the ticket to Etsako, Edo Central and do on. Our people say when there is confusion, the elders do not run. What we want to do, is hard. It’s such that when those people hear, according to him”, he said.
