2027: PDP backs Jonathan against Tinubu

The National leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has offered former President Goodluck Jonathan a clean bill of health to contest on its platform against President Bola Tinubu in 2027 Presidential elections.

Deputy national Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi disclosed this in an interview on Friday Arise Television where he stated that the major security challenges that were deployed against Jonathan’s government by APC which was then in opposition, was a tip of the iceberge when compared to the current security crisis that is plaguing the nation.

TheNewspad recalls that there has been talks Jonathan is potentially running for the election against President Tinubu who yet to formally declared his intention to run for the election.

But Tinubu’s associates have began to drum support for his re-election bid on the platform of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking on the possibility of Jonathan running for 2027 Presidential poll, Deputy national Secretary of PDP said, “if we (PDP leaders) weigh our chances are brighter with Goodluck Jonathan on the ballot, certainly, we will go his way”

“He (Jonathan) is one of us who accepted that he lost election and conceded to Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 general elections.

“All of these loss of hope and confidence will be addressed by a person who was there before. If Goodluck Jonathan is lucky to be son favoured, I think I am one of those persons that will be grateful that he is deserving an opportunity again because he has demonstrated that he capable and he is a very serious democrat. A democrat who appreciate the significance of managing a democracy like Nigeria with heterogenous and a very complex tendency.

“He (Jonathan) is one person who has not shown narrow-mindedness in national affairs. He seems to have the clout. He is today being looked around in Nigeria by other opposition parties, and Nigeria’s ruling ruling party – APC after they blackmailed him out of power in 2015”, according to Abdullahi.
