The Nigerian Army troops of 181 Amphibious Batallion have recovered 15 bodies of soldiers in Okuoma Community, Bomadi Local government Area of Delta State, amid hostility.
The peace mission by combatants to area last week Thursday, turned out to be fatal when two Major Generals and a Captain, killed in ambush by irate youths.
Acting Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau
said in a statement on Saturday March 16, 2024 that the unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.
The reinforcement team led by the Commanding officer, according to the Army, was also attacked, leading to the death of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 Soldiers.
The Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has directed the immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the heinous crime. The occurrence has been reported to the Delta State government.
Yet, the statement insisted that the military remains focused and committed to its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the Country.
According to the Army Acting spokesman who promised to provide additional details later, said, “So far, a few arrests have been made while steps in place to unravel the motive behind the attack.
Bodies of the soldiers whose hearts and stomachs were allegedly ripped off with knives by hoodlums, were left float in water while others were abandoned by the river bank.
TheNewspad investigation revealed that several residents of Okuoma Community, particularly youths have fled their homes after the tragic incident.
Soldiers have laid sieged to the area as the search for the killers have intensified, ahead of Monday March 18, 2024 security meeting that the Army and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.
