Nasarawa State government has stated that clarified that nine Medical doctors left (Japa) from the State service for greener pastures abroad at the end of March 2024.
‘Japa’ is loosely translates slang otherwise called run away” or “escape. The syndrome found its way into Nigerian colloquial expression, which is used to convey the idea of swift and evasive action in Yoruba language.
On Friday, Dr Gaza Gwamna, the State Commissioner for Health said this on l after meeting with leaders of of health unions in the State.
Leadership Newspaper said”There is no time in the history of Nasarawa State that 59 medical doctors left our hospital facilities at once”.
“What I know is that nine doctors have given notice that they will be leaving at the end of this month”, largely due to
due to poor renumeration.
According to him, “Some will be going to the Jos University Teaching Hospital in Plateau State, while others will be going to the Federal Medical Centre Keffi, Nasarawa State”, Dr Gwamna said.
The Commissioner also assured the medical personnel on behalf of the State government that their to address their concerns.
He said, “We are also working hard to improve our healthcare services. Our expectation is that by the time we leave office in 2027, public hospitals in Nasarawa State will be significantly enhanced”.
