Angry youths have reportedly attacked the Agenobode Police Division in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, following allegations that some arrested murder suspects were being held at the facility.
A witness Reporter said the station was allegedly breached after reports emerged that suspects accused of killing several young women and burying them in shallow graves were in police custody.
Following the recent discovery, youths mobilized and entered the station, removing three suspects after two others reportedly escaped.
The three suspects were said to have been fatally injured by the mob, amid tension as security personnel on duty fled upon sighting the mob while awaiting reinforcement.
Detectives from the homicide section of the state police command have since been deployed to the area, and the victims’ bodies have been exhumed, while local residents wailed uncontrollably.
A formal statement from the Nigeria Police Command in Edo State is currently awaited.
