Vote-buying’: Lawmaker seeking reelection caught with $500,000

Operatives of the Nigeria police have arrested the member representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.

Hon. Chinyere Igwe, who is seeking reelection into the lower chamber in the National Assembly, was caught with the sum of $498,100.00 cash, for ‘vote buying during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly polls.

Spokesperson of the police Command in Rivers State, SP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed this in a statement on Friday.

Consequently, the AIG in charge of election duty in the State, Abutu Yaro, has ordered swift interrogation and prosecution of the lawmaker.

The statement cautioned all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the relevant laws.
