UNIBEN students stay indoors, businesses shut down for slain vigilante funeral

University of Benin (UNIBEN) students living within and outside Ugbowo Campus have complied with the Management directive to conclude all activities on Friday 9th February 2024, by 6pm and to return to their places of abode in the University Community and to stay indoors.

The directive is contained in a Circular dated Friday February 9, 2024, and signed by Professor Clement Ighodaro, Dean of Students on behalf of the University Management, concerning this weekend burial Ceremony of Ekosodin vigilante chairman who was murdered in the Community by suspected cultists.

Prof. Ighodaro said, “They (students) are to remain indoors the next day, Saturday until events of the burial in the community are over and other citizens can move about freely .

“Students on campus are also advised to return to their respective hostels before night fall during this period.

“Members of the University community are to please note that the University’s gate leading to Ekosodin will be shut as from 7pm today and Saturday”, the Circular said.

The Circular said, “This is to draw the attention of UNIBEN students to the latest security alert in and around Ekosodin community.

“The alert, from the information gathered, concern the burial ceremony, this weekend, of the vigilante chairman murdered sometime ago at Ekosodin”.

TheNewspad investigation revealed that shops in Ekosodin, Osasogie, Uwagboe, Evbuomore, Isihor Communities and its environs were shut down at the weekend due to safety concerns during the funeral.
