Two robbers meet waterloo after killing 3 policemen at checkpoint

Two robbers linked to the murder of three policemen on Wednesday, met their waterloo in Ebonyi State.

The hoodlums were neutralized after shooting the Cops dead at a security checkpoint in Oshiri, Onicha Council Area of the State.

The incidents occurred 48 hours after police officer at the Union Bank Junction in Abakaliki, the State Capital, was shot dead by gunmen.

SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Command in Ebonyi State in a statement on Wednesday, said hoodlums struck at about 08:30hrs on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

The operatives of the Police Command were on a stop-and-search duty at Oshiri Division when they were attacked by armed robbers, according to police spokesperson.

SP. Onovwakpoyeya said police operatives mobilized, hunt the hoodlums and neutralized two of them after the attack at police checkpoint, while others escaped with bullet wound.

According to her, “Sadly, three Policemen lost their lives, one was injured and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital”.

She appealed on behalf State Commissioner Of Police, CP Faleye Olayele, to members of the public to report anyone with bullet wound or suspicious character in order to apprehend those still at large.

One Lexus car ES350 Model, one fabricated AK 47 rifle, one AK 47 magazine with seven rounds of ammunition and one SMG rifle were recovered from the hoodlums.

This is in addition to one SMG magazine with 8 rounds of ammunition, a pack of hard drugs (SK), charms, drums and ‘charka musical instrument’ for voodoo, according to SP Onovwakpoyeya.
