Two church guests drown in Ogun river

Two guests of Cherubim and Seraphim Church in company of seven others, have allegedly drowned in Ogun State river.

The adventurers were identified as Femi Akinola (32) of Odo Eran Itire Lagos State and Tunde Falade aged (35) of Kola Alagbado both travelled from Lagos State to Ogun State for the inauguration.

The victims left the church premises to swim, and got drowned in the process on Monday evening.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, SP Omolola Odutola said a member of Adebayo Adeosun reported the incident at the station at about 1830 hours.

Adeosun, told police that after they were rescued from the heavy tides and taken to the Health Center in Itori where they were unfortunately confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

The statement said the Divisional Police Officer in the locality where the incident happened, CSP Olayemi Jacob detailed his team to visit the scene  upon receipt of the report.

He also ascertained that there were no marks of violence and no foul play suspected.

The remains of the victims have since been evacuated to IFO General hospital for autopsy reports and later deposited in the same morgue for preservation.

In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police in the State, extended the Police deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.

He assured that the Command remains committed to promoting public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future.

But, the Police boss warned restive youths to steer clear of rivers whose depth or tides they cannot ascertain.
