Troops destroy illegal refineries in Delta, seize 290,000 litres of diesel

Troops of the Nigerian Army have destroyed stolen crude oil estimated at 200,000 litres and 90,000 litres of locally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) at Ogbokoko and Atu Area in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The AGO, which was stored in eight active Ovens used for illegal refining of stolen crude oil, and 14 storage reservoirs, were destroyed in-situ in line with extant guidelines of Operation Delta Safe.

Brigadier-General, Director Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu said in a statement on Thursday that troops conducting anti-oil theft operations, recorded the feat while responding to actionable intelligence swooped on an illegal oil refinery site in the general area.

He revealed said the alleged economic sabotage behind the crime, fled when they sighted the troops, according to the spokesman who assured that investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing criminals.

He appealed to members of the public are please implored to report any suspected act of sabotage or criminality to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations to curb economic sabotage in Nigeria.
