Traded for ₦500k: How Ogun police smashed child-stealing syndicate, rescued three teens

Date:

Detectives from the Ibafo Division Command smashed a three-member child-stealing syndicate, rescuing three teenagers during a sting operation in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Suspects: Three women—Kikelomo Jimoh (36), Kayode Elizabeth, and Blessing Anochike (60)—were arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The rescued teens include, Christiana Olowokere (14), Olamilekan Abdurusheed (16), and Adeniji Rebecca (12).

According to the command’s spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the breakthrough came after a sustained, intelligence-led investigation into child stealing.

Following the arrest of primary suspect Kikelomo Jimoh, interrogations led operatives straight to the residence of Blessing Anochike, where the victims were recovered.

DSP Babaseyi stated:

”Preliminary findings indicate that Christiana was allegedly sold for ₦500,000, while Olamilekan, who had earlier absconded from his parents, was subsequently allegedly abducted.

The circumstances surrounding the movement and custody of Adeniji Rebecca are also under investigation.”

All three teenagers are now safe, according to the the police spokesman who disclosed that the case file has been moved to the SCID to uncover individual roles and track down any remaining co-conspirators.

Police Response and Public Warning

Commending the Ibafo Division detectives for their diligence, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, urged the public to remain alert.

”Parents, guardians, neighbours, community leaders, schools, transport operators and the general public should remain vigilant and promptly report any unexplained disappearance, suspicious movement, unusual custody arrangement or activity suggesting the sale, abduction or exploitation of a child.”
