Residents of Edo State have staged a vibrant awareness walk to herald the 10th coronation anniversary celebrations of the Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare, the second.
Excited youths and royal admirers converged on the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre along Airport Road, ahead of the the official unveiling of the programme of activities— which kick off on Saturday, October 3, and reaches its peak with a grand reception on October 20, 2026.
The crowd marched through the King Square and major adjoining streets in the State Capital, rallying support and celebrating the rich heritage of the great Benin throne with traditional dances and lively drumbeats.
Anchored by the Oba Ewuare’s 10th Coronation Anniversary Planning Committee, the procession successfully built anticipation for the historic royal festivities.
Addressing the gathering at the Oredo Local Government Secretariat, the Chairman of the Council, Gabriel Iduseri, paid glowing tribute to Oba Ewuare II and pledged total support for the anniversary.
Describing the monarch as the ultimate symbol of Benin culture and tradition, Iduseri said, “Our people are happy. We are happy to have him as our King.”
He added, “As for us, we are fully prepared for the 10th Coronation anniversary. And we hold him in the highest regard.”
Also speaking, Benin-based cultural activist Henry Legema, joined by popular socialite Destiny Ebagua, expressed immense pride in being part of the milestone event as custodians of rich Benin customs and traditions.
Similarly, Chief Ikponmwosa Omoregie, (the Obasoyen’ Iweguae), noted that the vibrant awareness rally is merely a prelude to the rich array of cultural activities lined up for the main an
