A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe has appealed to his kinsmen all over the world, particularly South Eastern part of Nigeria to shun call by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore-led free Nnamdi Kanu’s protest billed for October 20, 2025.
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB leader is being prosecuted by the Department of State Security Service, DSS on a seven count charge, bothering on his alleged involvement in terrorism activities after his re-arrested in Kenya and subsequently extradited to Nigeria in June 2021.
In an opinion shared on his verified social media handle, Igbokwe who hails from South East, but based in Lagos State, wrote:
“Any bonafide person with Igbo blood running inside him must not follow Omoyele Sowore to dance on the graves of hundreds of South East men and women killed by Nnamdi Kanu and his criminal gangs. Actions carry consequences”.
Meanwhile, some protesters clad in branded T-shirts, carrying placards of victims of the unrest in South Eastern Nigeria, stormed the National Assembly in Nigeria, urging the federal government not to listen to call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu from the Department of State Security Service, DSS custody.
They urge the government not to yield to pressure to discontinue the ongoing trial of the IPOB leader in response to calls by the opposition leader to free Kanu from custody.
Spokesman of the group of protesters, China Udumkoha, said, “our place has been locked down since the past four years. Our mothers are being flogged at the market in order to force them to abide by the sit at home order given by this IPOB”.
“Our Children are being chased in schools. Visitors no longer come to our place. So, businesses are down. So, we are in solidarity with Igbo nation to say no to this kind of deception. We do not want it anymore”, according to Udumkoha who also bemoned the loss of lives in attacks.
But, Sowore has insisted that as long long as Igbo people are persecuted in Nigeria, and Kanu is in court, he has a case in court, while calling on Nigerians to join him in the peaceful protest.
