The Nigeria police Command in Anambra State has confirmed the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Elaigwu Austin, who was killed during a gun battle with armed hoodlums in the State.
Until his death, CSP Austin led a police-led joint security team comprising military personnel and other security agencies operating across the Anambra South Senatorial District.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, confirmed the incident during an operational visit on Thursday to Aguata, where he paid tribute to the fallen officer and tasked personnel to sustain operations against criminal elements.
In a statement issued in Awka, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the Commissioner commiserated with personnel over the loss, assessed ongoing security operations, and urged officers to remain focused, professional, and dedicated to their duties.
The police spokesperson noted that under the late officer’s leadership, the joint team conducted intelligence-driven operations to disrupt criminal networks and restore peace across the region.
CP Ama acknowledged CSP Austin’s contributions to peace and security in the state, emphasizing that his death must not weaken the resolve of security forces to protect lives and property.
”His service and dedication will remain part of the Command’s institutional memory.
The Command prays for the peaceful repose of his soul and asks God to grant his family and colleagues the strength to bear this loss,” the statement added.
