Run-off/bye elections: 2 officials, 12 others held for ‘electoral offences’

14 suspects, including two public officials have been arrested for election-related offences, Police Force Public Relations officer, ACP Adejobi said on Thursday night.

He said the suspects were arrested by security agents during last week Saturday run-off/bye elections in 26 States of the federation.

He also said.a suspected thug was lynched by members of the public, while a pistol was recovered by the police during the election exercise.

The police spokesman said the feat was achieved 7 weeks; and 814 violent criminal suspects arrested,107 kidnapped victims rescued since the past several kills.

The IGP stated that the arrested suspects will be handed over to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) upon conclusion of investigations in line with extant legal provisions.

ACP Adejobi said the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun at the monthly Police Conference where officers highlighted their success.

He said the strategic Police Managers, comprising members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police and Heads of Tactical Units were present at the meeting.

The IGP listed the arrest of three suspected notorious kidnappers in the FCT, and 9 suspects in connection with attacks on Mangu, Plateau State.

The statement revealed that some hostages were rescued by police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Rivers, Ekiti, and Kwara States amongst others.

He also encouraged police personnel to participate in the forthcoming Police Week/Award Ceremony that would serve as an avenue to recognize officers who have exhibited bravery and dedication in upholding peace and safety.

In addition, the Inspector General of Police expressed the resoluteness of the NPF in its mission to foster a safe and secure environment conducive to national development.
