Post examinations tragedy hits AAU

Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in Edo State has been thrown into mourning following a fatal road crash that claimed the life of a final year students of the Edo State–owned institution.

The tragedy occurred when some final year students bound in sign-out celebration after final year examinations via a motorcade around Ujoelen Junction on Ekpoma-Auchi Expressway, near the University’s Campus.

The student, whose identity is yet-to-be confirmed as of Press time, was reported to be part of a motorcade of fresh graduates that took to the highway on Monday December 8.

Investigation revealed that the victim who was behind the wheel in a car, attempted to overtake a moving truck when he reportedly collided with a stationary vehicle.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edo State Command, Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident.

He said one person died while five others sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Mathew also explained that the students, after writing their last paper, entered the road in a convoy.

“In the process, one of them overtook another vehicle and rammed into a stationary truck”, according to him.

‎The FRSC official urged students to celebrate within campus areas and to always prioritise safety, noting that “there is life after graduation.”

‎TheNewspad recalls that the Management of AAU, earlier banned signing out party by students on Campus after a similar incident occurred in the past.
