Police step up search for drowned Ogun swimmer

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State Command, CP

Alamutu Abiodun has deployed rescue crew to recover the corpse of a swimmer, Sunday Ogah who drowned in Eyinwa River tide in the State.

Desperate search for the victim body, which is yet-to float ashore since the tragic incident was reported 1200hrs on 30th March 2024 at Odogbolu Divisional Police station by Mr Otusanya Abayomi, a native of Igbe Ilara Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Police report said the fun seeking friend who hails from Benue State, left him and others to an unknown destination without notifying anyone.

It stated that Abayomi told the police that complainant came with his friend one Sunday Ogah, an Igbede man from Benue State to his Community.

Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola who confirmed the incident in a statement, said, “Upon the receipt of the information, the DPO Odogbolu detailed surveillance police officers in collaboration with some local divers to locate the corpse, but their efforts proved abortive”.

The spokesperson however assured that effort is still ongoing to recover the corpse and reach out to the family, and to inform them of the sad occurrence.

The statement noted that CP Alamutu Abiodun, extends his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time

He, assured that the Command remain committed to promoting public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future.

CP Abiodun further warned restive young persons to steer clear of Rivers whose depth they cannot predict.
