Nigeria Police Command in Edo State, is yet-to comment on report of a yet-to-be identified criminal suspect caught smoking cannabis sativa also known as ‘Indian hemp’ in its custody.
The male suspect was earlier taken into police custody for allegedly stealing I-phone before he was caught smoking on Wednesday May 8th 2024, at police headquarters’ custody in Benin City, Edo State.
A security source revealed that the smell of the hemp, arose suspicion, that led to the discovery by a security agents who drew his colleagues attention to the incident, in disbelief.
The source stated that unpleasant surprise has prompted police authorities to launch investigation into security lapses at the Command.
“The suspect, was brought out from Cell with Indian hemp collected from him. We were surprise at the level of familiarity with some of the personnel on duty.
“He were were watching him as he was being rebuked by security agents in plain clothes and returned him to custody.
“Some security agents said the male suspect stole I-phone, which he was being interrogated for. We were together in the same office”, the source said.
