Plateau massacre families get N100m lifeline from governors

Governors from North-Central, comprising Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and Niger States have donated the sum of (One Hundred Million Naira) N100m to families who were attacked by terrorists in Plateau State.

The lifeline was made in respect of 200 persons who were allegedly murdered on the Eve of the 2023 Christmas by terrorists in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local government Areas of the State, leaving several other helpless residents displaced.

Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia confirmed the donation in a statement via Facebook on Tuesday.

Kula revealed that the Chairman, North-Central Governors’ Forum and governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi A. Sule, made the pledge on behalf of group.

This came to the fore when Governor Sule, with his counterpart in Benue, Hyacinth Alia were in Jos, the Plateau State Capital to sympathize with the Governor of the State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and people of the State.

Governor Sule, according to the statement, which insisted that attackers innocent people and kill indiscriminately are terrorists and must be treated as such.

Responding, the host and Governor of Plateau, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang expressed appreciation to his brother Governors for the solidarity visit and commiseration.

He regretted that his colleague’s visits to him are always to grief, a development he described as unfortunate, adding that he would like to see where the entire country will converge on the Plateau for celebrations but not mourning.

On his part, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, called on the people of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and Niger states to unite in the fight against terrorists who are disrupting the peace of the North-Central States.

The statement said Governor Alia said hence the problem of unprovoked incessant attacks on farming Communities has become common in the four States, there is need for a united strategy, willpower and to check the borders to checkmate the menace.
