Diri leads delegation to Jonathan's family for supporting his re-election

Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri has visited the former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan in Yenagoa, the State Capital.

The Governor who shared his photographs with Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan on Facebook, led a delegation to residence of eldersteman on Tuesday evening.

Diri revealed that the purpose of the new year visit to Jonathan was in “appreciation for the massive support received towards” his re-election on November 16, 2023.

He said, “I seized the occasion of the visit to appreciate our leader and the wife, Dame (Mrs.) Patience Jonathan, for the massive support received towards my recent re-election”.

“I have assured him of the commitment of the Prosperity Government to sustain the level of peace, security and development in the State.

TheNewspad recalls that Diri, the Candidate of Peoples Democratic party (PDP) who came to power in 2020, defeated his closest rival, and Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Timipreye Sylva in the off season election, with 65,088 votes, ahead of Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Udengs Eradiri, secured a total of 905 votes to come a distant third in the election.

Timipreye, a former Governor of Bayelsa State and former Minister of Petroleum (State) under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
