The Nigeria Lawmakers Opposition coalition has demanded outright expulsion of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike from Peoples Democratic Party, accusing him of working against the party’s interest.
Spokesman for the group, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, representing Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere made the assertion at Press Conference on Friday in his home town, Akokwa, Imo State where he promised to fight and ensure that the PDP does not go extinct.
He also demanded the immediate sack of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum at the forthcoming National Executive Council meeting in May 2025 and sought his replacement with a credible aspirant from North Central region.
Ugochinyere sounded the alarm that two additional Governors and 40 members of the National Assembly — elected on the platform of PDP have firmed up plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress over disillusionment with the party’s leadership and direction arising from the recent defection of Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa from the party to APC while the Wike and Damagum who invoked divine guidance for PDP and sit back and watch.
The pressure group spokesman who claim to be the State leader of PDP, proclaimed the PDP’s 2023 governorship Candidate in Imo State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu as Imo State party Chairman.
He also stated the need for an emergency NWC meeting of PDP for the party to be taken seriously, alleging that moves are being made by unamed individuals to incapacitate PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
According to ti him, “For two years, the leaders of this party have failed to find a solution to its internal crisis because they are actively undermining the very platform that made them.
“Where was God when you allowed the North Central to be sidelined in appointing an acting chairman? Where was God when you supported APC defectors in court? Or when party structures were handed to APC members? And yet you speak of faith in God?”, the Coalition queried.
