Outcome of Edo APC primaries reflects democracy ― Uzodimma

Mr Hope Uzodimma, the chairman of Edo State All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial primary election held across the State on Saturday February 17, 2024, has stated that the outcome of the election reflects the party’s commitment to democratic processes in the State.

He made the assertion after declaring Hon. Dennis Idahosa, the House of Representatives member representing Ovia Federal Constituency the winner of the election on Saturday.

According yo him, the outcome of the primaries reflects the party’s commitment to democratic processes and sets a positive tone for the political landscape in Edo State.

Idahosa from Edo South Senatorial District defeated Engr. Gideon Ikhine (Edo Central) that trailed behind him with 700 votes and Senator Monday Okpebhole (Edo Central) Senatorial District who polled 100 votes in the election.

Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State disclosed that the resounding victory of Idahosa marked by the highest vote count, reflects the trust and confidence our party members have in his leadership.

“I commend all aspirants and their supporters for upholding the peace accord, demonstrating maturity and commitment to our party’s values.

‘Remember, the party belongs to us all, and this is not a defeat but a testament to our collective strength.

“To the hospitable people of Edo State, I assure you that our party brings democratic principles and a promise of quality governance. Hon. Dennis Idahosa is poised to champion our cause and uplift the State.

“When the time is right, we will return for campaigns. Congratulations to Hon. Dennis Idahosa and all aspirants for their belief in our party’s progressive ideals, together, we shall forge ahead towards a brighter future for the State”, he said.

The Chairman of the election, however brushed aside the report of alleged invasion of political thugs who attempted to disrupt the exercise at the collation Centre in Gapiona Street, Benin City shortly before the results were announced.

Dissatisfied with the outcome of the exercise, a Returning officer from Edo Central Senatorial District, declared Senator Monday Okpebhole as the winner of the election.

But, the immediate past Chairman of Edo State Chapter, David Imuse, has congratulated Hon. Dennis Idahosa for his victory at the primaries, and pledged his support, ahead of the September 21, governorship election in the State.
