Governor Alex Otti has directed the ban on commercial motorcycles operation in parts of Abia State, with immediate effect.

Kazie Uko, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said the affected areas — Umuahia, the State Capital, and Aba Metropolis.

Uko in a statement on Sunday, said the enforcement if the ban on commercial motorcyclists otherwise known as Okada begins on Monday, August 14, 2023.

The statement reads, “Effective Monday, August 14, 2023, any motorcycle seen on the streets of Umuahia and Aba townships being used for such purpose will be impounded by the security agencies”.

The statement also said “security agencies have been directed to arrest any individual caught violating this order, for possible prosecution”.
