Obaseki aborts trip over death of Edo govt official

The Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki on Thursday, cut short his trip abroad, to resume his job with courage, uncommon grit and dedication, following the death of Mr Elvis Osagiobare, the Director of Protocol, Government House in Benin City.

52-year-old passed on Wednesday April 3rd 2024 after a brief illness at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH in Benin in a referral from Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin City.

The State government has however kept mute on the tragedy. But, his fans on social Media have started paying tributes to the late government official.

Osagiobare, died in a brief illness after he was diagnosed with Respiratory organ challenge, according to dependable sources.

He was deployed from the State Ministry of Health months ago to Government House where he worked under a Permanent Secretary from Edo North Senatorial District.

The late Director who was taken out of Government House after his health conditions suddenly deteriorated to Edo Specialist Hospital for urgent Medical attention, was also in-charge of Government House fuel dump at the Government House, which was became lonely on Thursday.

A source said, “Even when there is fuel scarcity. He will never allow you to go empty. He (Osagiobare) always look for a way to assist. He was unblemish.

“He was the Governor’s man based on the way he discharged his duties diligently. He was easy going man. He was also very accessible and loving.

“The greatest losers are his wife and his Children. We are hoping that the Governor will assist his family, especially in this trying moment.

“One of the Children is seeking admission into the University before the tragedy occurred. He was a jolly good fellow to everyone, including those who cross his path”, the source said.

TheNewspad investigation revealed that after the deployment of the former Director of Protocol, Mr Osayande Aisagbon from the same office, over two other officials who occupied the position at different times, exited the office in unceremoniously after the they were struck by strange illnesses.

In July 2020, Obaseki redeployed Mr Aisagbon to another Department for allegedly failing to provide kola nuts when the Governor led PDP leaders to pay homage to the Oba of Benin Palace in Benin City, the State Capital.
