NUJ chairman loses DSS wife, Hajara in hospital

Abdul Gafa, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist, Kaduna State Council, has lost his wife, Hajara Alabelewa.

The staff of the Department of State Security Service at the Kaduna State Hospital in the early hours of Sunday, August 24th 2025 after a brief illness.

A lot of prominent Nigerians, including the President of NUJ, Alassan Yahaya, Kaduna State Commissioner of Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, and Senator Shehu Sani, have paid tributes to the late woman who had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

Speaking at the residence of the widower, Abdul Gafa, the State Commissioner for Information, prayed God to comfort the bereaved family and grant them strength in this period.

On his part, Senator Shehu Sani, stated that Alabelewa’s death is not only a loss to her immediate family, but her friends who admitted her commitment to kindness.

Sani said, “we should remember her life”, describing her as a mother and a comforter as well as a source of peace to her husband and beloved children.

President, Nigeria Union of Journalist, Alassan Yahaya recalled how Alabelewa stood firmly by her husband’s journalistic career and her service to the union before her transition.

He said, “we are all saddened by the death of your wife. I appeal to everyone, let us continue to prayer for her”.
