Minister stops event disapproved by Tinubu

A viral video of Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, disrupting an event in Abuja, the nation’s Capital, has set social Media buzzing.

According to Daily Trust, the programme, which the Minister said didn’t have the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu, was planned by Mela-Chiyoma PAT Limited on Thursday.

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), uploaded the video on X, formerly Twitter, where the Minister can be seen accusing the event organizers of impersonation.

Tagged: “Unveiling the power of women and food security”, was conveyed in the name of the ministry of women affairs without approval, according to the visibly angry Minister who addressed attendees and and event organisers to call off the programme.

Kennedy-Ohanenye said, “I’m standing here to explain this to everyone. She has been arrested. She should have reorganised herself, used her name to make the invitation, and used her name to do this, not to use the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.

She said, “I can’t allow this programme to go on because this is pure impersonation, and the President is not happy about it. I’m saying it, let the media cover it. We don’t care. You don’t do this. You don’t take the ministry for granted, for what?”

Netizens on social Media have began to throw darts at the Minister, accusing her of restoring to self help in defending the indefensible government.

Others, argued that the event organizers should not have acceded to her request to suspend the event, behind the shadow of the nationwide #EndBad Governance protests.

A Press statement from either the Minister or her Media handlers in the Ministry is being awaited.
