A Magistrate’ court in Enugu State has remanded a 41-year-old Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, a social media user in Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service over alleged defamatory publication and cyberbullying/stalking of the Professor Chidiebere Onyia, who is Secretary to Enugu State Government, SSG.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Police Command in the State, SP Daniel Ndukwe said this on Wednesday in a statement, which alleged that Ugwuanyi, admitted to making the publication, but failed to provide any proof that the SSG when he was arraigned in court.
Consequently, the case file was transmitted to the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice as ordered by the court.
The defendant who operates a Facebook account: Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, under the name “Sen Chijikem Ugwuanyi”, on 15th January 2026, made a post falsely attributed to the SSG, was arraigned by the Commissioner of Police in the State.
The post, according to the police, alleged that the SSG stated: “Some people are meant to be used to win elections, while some are meant to be given appointments and political dividends”.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect, who operates a Facebook account under the name “Sen Chijikem Ugwuanyi”, on 15th January 2026, made a post falsely attributed to the SSG.

Responding, the remand order by court, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Mamman Giwa, cautioned social media users to exercise restraint and responsibility in the use of social media platforms, evidence the Prosecution also attached the photograph of the SSG to the post.
He warned against cyberbullying, stalking, and the publication of defamatory content capable of inciting hatred or breaching public peace, stressing that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.
