Operatives of the the Nigeria police Command in Kano State have arrested 30-year-old man has been arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim for reportedly stabbing his grandparents to death, over food related disagreement.
On Thursday September 25th tragedy struck in the morning when the suspect pulled a knife and attacked the 75-year-old grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, and 65-year-old grandmother, Hadiza Tasidi at their residence in Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Kano.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Police Command in Kano State, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, who shared details of the incident in a statement, revealed that the crime case was reported to the Dala Divisional Police Headquarters by a concerned resident in the locality.
Following the incident, the victims were hurled away to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where medical for urgent medical attention.
But, the aged grandparents who lived together with the suspect, who was said to be under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident, were confirmed dead by medical doctor, according to the police.
“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies, causing severe injuries.
“The elderly couple was immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where medical personnel confirmed their death.
“Their bodies were later examined and released to family members for burial according to Islamic rites”, he said.
In the meantime, the murder case been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation on order of the Commissioner of Police in Kano State Command,
CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori who also assured that the suspect will have his date in court when investigation into the crime is completed.
