LP: Obaseki becoming godfather he condemned

The Labour Party (LP) has accused the Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki of transforming into a godfather he hitherto condemned when he was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before he later sought refuge in Peoples Democratic party (PDP) which was the platform he used to realize his second team governorship ambition.

Comrade Idris Zekeri, head of New Media, Labour Party Candidate in the September 21, Edo State governorship election, Mr Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata made the allegation when he featured on Monday AIT Politics Today Magazine.

Zekeri stated that LP members, Akpata and his supporters are not worried about the sudden turn of events, noting that Edo people would decide the outcome of the election.

He said, “As a matter of fact, the Governor of Edo State had pledged on the premise that we do not need godfathers in Edo State. And Edo people supported him to become the Governor of the State.

“But to my own surprise, he (Obaseki) has transmignified to become a Governor by attempting to midwife a Candidate into office..we (LP supporters and members ) are not worried at all. In the end, it’s the people that matter in democracy.

“This election is a referendum of failure or PDP and APC. Our Candidate has the capacity to deliver on the job”, alleging that the outgoing Governor has not met the expectations of the electorate in terms of human capital development since the past seven years.

Speaking further, Zekeri berated the All Progressives Congress Candidate, Sen. Monday Okpebholo
and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic party, Mr Asue Ighodalo in the election for depending on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Godwin Obaseki’s support to draw victory from the jaws of oppressed citizens instead of campaigning across the State like Mr Akpata.

The head of New Media of LP, “It is the same ole story that they keep telling us that he (Asue Ighodalo) is a technocrat that is going to be leading the State. What we are now trying to do is that we do not need people that will be giving themselves ‘big names’.

According to him, “Where as one of the Candidates is depending on the godfather in Abuja to deliver him, while the other one is depending on the godfather in Dennis Osadebey Avenue to deliver him as a Governor”, Zekeri said.
