LP ‘ll participate in Edo LG poll – Party Chieftain

A chieftain of Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, Dr Oghogho Okundaye has said that the party will participate in the September 2, 2022 Local Government election in the state if it is free and fair.

In a chat with newsmen in Benin City, Okundaye said that the party is well positioned to triumph in the election judging by its record in the presidential election.

According to him, “It’s no longer news that the Labour Party is well liked and loved; we’re relying on the organic network that we have as a party.

“The strength of the youths and the movement that the youths constitute in our polity today gives us the advantage that no other party has.”

He condemned the agitation by a section of the society that the governorship position should be zoned to a particular region of the state, saying that such agitation is in bad fate and unconstitutional.

He said competence and capacity should drive the nation’s polity at the expense of sectional interest.

“My stand is, if anyone is qualified in line with Nigeria Constitution and is interested, he should come out and participate.

“The discussion should be what do you have for the people? Governance should be about the people,” he said.

Dr Okundaye expressed his willingness and readiness to serve in any capacity the party deems necessary.
