‘Killers of Okpebholo’s orderly hired for dirty job’

Senator Matthew Urhoghide has alleged that political thugs that linked to Airport Road in Benin City violence that resulted in the death of Senator Monday Okpebholo’s orderly, Insp Onuh Akoh from No. 45 Mobile Police in Abuja, were hired to do dirty job by evil merchants.

The Director-General of Senator Monday Okpebholo/Dennis Idahosa Campaign Council made the assertion when he featured on Channels Television ‘Politics Today’ interview on Thursday July 25, 2024.

Senator Urhoghide who represented Edo South Senatorial District in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, defected from Peoples Democratic Party, to the All Progressives Congress after he lost his re-election bid at the 2023 PDP primaries to Mr Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.

He described the fatal attack on Senator Okpebholo and the reinstated Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu, by hoodlums as barbaric, noting that a diligent investigation by the police should be able to reveal the true identities of the culprits whom he claimed are also well known to state actors.

Senator Urhoghide said,” It is a laughing narrative at this point in our national development that the ugly incident took place at the Benin Airport where he was assaulted by political thugs as a sitting Senator few years ago in the presence of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“I do not want to join issues with anyone. But suffice to say that if police are really conducting their investigation, the culprits who are known to Nigerians will be exposed. You know who indeed performed that dastardly act. I am not afraid of it at all.

“There is no way Senator Okpebholo’s orderly would have shot himself. And there is no way his orderly who was close to Senator Okpebholo would have been killed by his people or APC supporters who were present there”, according to Senator Urhoghide.

He said, “some of the young people were hired to do this dirty job. Unfortunately, I know what it’s in our State when it comes to violence and intolerance to opposition by politicians”.

“Who did what and who has done what? Police should know from their investigation. The people who are being looked for, who are they?”, Senator Urhoghide queried.

He also said, “we as leaders of political parties, I think we should tell our followers the truth. I pride myself in the saying that I do not parade thugs. I do not have thugs around me. I have being in politics since 1992”.
